Prismatic Vodka #56 Monday May 1st 2006 "Flashbacks as a weapon? My God, a use for webcomic writers!" copyright 2005 Rik Davnall, all rights reserved Rik_the_Riff@hotmail.com - email me! I'm actually writing this halfway through yesterday. This is because, as I write, I'm killing time until tea, and shortly after tea I'm going to a bishathon, so I won't have time to do it later. I would be finishing off shading the comic, but It's been a long time since breakfast, I kinda skipped lunch, and my hand's started shivering with the hunger (it's not a new problem, it's just that normally I've eaten more by this point in the day). So, no shading right now. On the plus side, this gives my time to finish up some minor changes to the site. Up there above the comic somewhere should be the Fantasy Webcomic Banner Exchange banner. My experiences of FWBE comics have been almost universally good, so give it a click whenever it looks even vaguely interesting. Hopefully, it should bring in some new readers, too; this is the first part of my publicity drive that I said I'd do before page 100 goes up a week on Saturday (can you believe how quickly the time's gone?). If you know a good webring or webcomic list to get listed on, give me a shout. In other news, yesterday I saw episode 36 of Eureka 7. Considering the high standard of eps 34 and 35, 36 was singularly disappointing. The insights into Holland's character were interesting, but Eureka learning how to use makeup was contrived, silly and formulaic, an unwelcome reminder that the writers of the show once thought they were good at writing comedy. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya episode 4, on the other hand, was very entertaining. Sure, it skips from the initial bit of plot in ep 3, past a major plot turning point, to a random baseball game, but it's fun to guess from the hints it gives what might actually have happened in the gap. I also watched the first three episodes of Ouran High School Host Club, which is sublime. It's also ridiculous; the premise is all but impossible to sum up without losing some of the complexities of the show, but the art is very pretty, the comedy hilarious, even when it isn't of a type I normally enjoy, and the characters, in their rare serious moments, seem quite genuine and likable. The random fourth-wall breakage in the third episode was a bit weird, but I'll let it pass, because it was so funny... Also, today is the day I accede to the presidency of the Basement Film Unit. Woot! ^_^ Anyway, I've still got to get that banner into my archive pages, so I'm signing off... Wub, Rik ![]() ![]()
