Well, it's been an interesting couple of days; I've now finished all my contact time for my
course this academic year. I now only have exams to look forward to, and then the summer.
Thursday evening was the first meeting of the Basement Film Unit committee, and I nothing
to say about it except to quote Tom Clancy; 'committees are like boards; they are long, hard
and thick as two short planks' (it's in one of his novels, I can't remember which one). To
be fair, it wasn't all that bad, it just felt it.
Yesterday evening the anime society had a talk from a very engaging man from the Gonzo anime
studio, which was great fun (not to mention it being good to do something with the animesoc
people, who I haven't seen much of this term).

Today's page took a lot less time to draw than I was expecting it to. However, I must say I'm
very pleased with the result, even if it is just some pretty art 'cuz I couldn't be bothered
writing a proper page for today. This, as it were, is the brutal side of Council Justice;
that's a whole starfleet (more ships out of shot or currently invisible) being destroyed by
one man (?) for unrevealed sins (of which more later in the story).

Speaking of later in the story, next week sees us hit page 100 (though it will stop being
page 100 once I get round to redrawing chapters one and two). That is, if I can keep to the
update schedule in the face of exams. I plan to spend the weekend dealing with the week's
comics, then Monday revising for my Tuesday exam, Wednesday and Thursday revising for my
Friday exam, and the weekend revising for my Monday exam. It's possible that there won't be
a strip for either Monday or Wednesday next week (though I'll try my hardest to prevent that).
Once we're past that, however, I'm technically free all the time, so the comic should be
reasonably well on-schedule, and hopefully I can start building up a buffer (yeah, likely...)

April was the first month where the site got fewer unique visits than the previous month.
Not by much, but it's a little discouraging. However, across the first few days of May, my
count's been much higher, and I'm hoping to improve further on it by doing some proper
promotional work in the next week. Those of you contributing to my visit count, keep up the
good work, and thank you very much!

In anime, I'm still watching (slowly) Scrapped Princess and (at the half-way point), I have
to say; when the cryptic characters stop knowing what to do, you *know* you're in trouble...
Ouran High School Host Club continues brilliant, going from strength to strength to strength.
Eureka 7, on the other hand, continues to disappoint; after the annoyance that was episode
36, I have to say 37 is no better; the writers have got themselves stuck repeating expo and
cheap gags that they should have left behind during the first arc and forgotten that they're
perched on the edge of the conclusion of the third arc and running out of episodes to sort
it out in. And why does Norbu have to have such bad personal hygeine? Not necessary!

Jigoku Shojo, on the other hand, is not disappointing. I discovered recently that Jelly
Subs are six episodes ahead of Shinsen, and I've been downloading to catch up. This evening,
ep 17 was waiting for me, and since getting back, 18, 19 and 20 have finished downloading.
Jelly aren't the best fansubbers out there (their grammar is particularly lacking), but they
are ahead with the series and it is still intelligible enough. 17 is a very strange episode,
possibly concieved after the writer watched Rozen Maiden and Paranoia Agent in one sitting,
possibly while intoxicated. However, it is also fantastically interesting, and I bet it will
be one of the most debated episodes among fans (I certainly plan on getting some good arguments
out of it. Ooop, ep 21's just finished downloading. This isn't fair; I've gotta sleep, but
I want to watch anime! >_< Anyway, one good thing about 17 is that it finally shakes the plot
up a bit; I have complained in the past about stagnation, but this time, things do move in a
very concrete, if subtle, sense. It's setting up nicely for a fascinating conclusion, though.

I think that just about rounds it up for now...
Wub, Rik
