I'm sorry I missed Saturday's update. The end of last week was really busy; Wednesday was
RPGsoc, Thursday I saw X-men 3 (of which more later) and there was an animesoc social, and
Friday was split between BFU stuff in the afternoon and an RPGsoc social in the evening. I'd
have drawn a comic on Saturday and put it up yesterday, but there was a Fruits Basket marathon
and I wasn't missing that for anything (again, more later). So, I spent most of yesterday
drawing. I'm quite pleased with the results, though computifying the pages has not done them
any favours.

For those of you who missed it when you read the page, 'Tortion And Relative Distortion In
Space' acronyms to 'TARDIS', as in Dr. Who's magical spaceship. Yes, I know that in Dr. Who,
it stands for 'Time And Relative Dimension In Space', but that doesn't mean anything. It's
a throw-away reference, but I like it. If you don't know what I'm talking about in this
paragraph, go watch Dr. Who, you heathen! ^_-

I've done a fair amount of anime watching since I last wrote (it having been five days), but
I'm going to start with X-men 3. And I'm going to write this review using the bit of my brain
which is largely indifferent to the comics (the part of me that likes the comics is still
incoherent over the way they trampled over canon fact for the film). It's a very good film.
It's less political than the first two (thank God), although it does seem to have a little
too much of 'great power = great responsibility' (that's Spiderman's shtick! hands off!).
The action is fantastic, too, with some of the best set-pieces I've seen in a while. The
plot twists... well, I won't spoil them except to say that they aren't in any X-men graphic
novel at all. They're good. I admire the writers' courage in pulling them off (though they
betray themselves a bit right at the end). Oh, apparently if you go see it you should make
sure to stay to the end of the credits 'cuz there's an extra scene...

Anyway, anime... I'll go in reverse order, since I can remember the last few things... First
up is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, which I watched eps 2-4 of yesterday. This is the scariest
anime I have ever seen. I'm not ashamed to admit that in all three episodes, there were times
where I wished for a sofa to hide behind. It is *terrifying*. And the payoff at the end of
episode 4 (it seems to be a 26-episode series in 4-episode chapters or somesuch)... well, it's
awesome. The skill and the daring of the writers is better than anything I've ever seen. I
haven't seen enough yet to judge the whole series fairly, but I reckon this could dislodge
Paranoia Agent quite shortly from my 'favourite anime' top spot.

What else? Well, there's Witchblade ep 2, which is very interesting, once you get past the
slightly silly size of the protagonist's breasts. Also Ouran High School Host Club 8, which
was as funny as ever, without losing the grounding it has as a serious love story (no-one
will believe me on this; it *is* a serious love story, it just happens to happen amidst some
very silly goings-on). The balance between humour and serious stuff was, as always, spot-on.
It's good to know Bones can do something other than mecha well.

Speaking of Mecha, what's finally appeared? Eureka 7 ep 38. I missed Dr. Who to watch it on
Saturday evening. Was it worth it? Well, maybe. The opening twelve to fifteen minutes were
as painfully misguided as eps 36 and 37, with the writers *absolutely determined* to prove
their incompetence at comedy (bless their little hearts, they just aren't capable of well-
pitched humour). However, once the silliness was out of the way, there were a couple of
beautifully-realised moments of interaction between Our Heroes, and the plot is at least
beginning to grind forward again.

Princess Princess episode 7 is excellent. The premise had me in stitches before the two minute
mark. The presentation of Mikoto's problem du jour was flawless and managed to let us
know just how bad his singing is without us ever having to listen to it. Then there was Tooru
angst. He's adorable when he angsts! And the bit at the end where Tooru and Yuujirou... Well,
I won't spoil it. I'll just say it made me very happy.

I think there might have been an episode of .Hack//Roots in there somewhere, but I can't
remember it and I might have already reviewed it, so I'll spare you. Last up, but by no means
least, is Suzumiya episode 8. Now, you all know I love this series by now. I love this
episode especially, and for several reasons. First off, there's the interaction between
Kyon and Haruhi through the second half, which... well, I've already called something
adorable this rant and it seems churlish to do so again... it's very sweet. The revelation
at the end is sublime (if ridiculous). And, the best news of all; the series is going to be
more than 13 episodes long (the next episode is previewed as chronologically the 14th, even
though it's the ninth to have been shown). This is very good news...

Anyway, I'll sign off here. More reviews on Wednesday, I have no doubt.

Wub, Rik
