Prismatic Vodka #71 Sunday June 11th 2006 "Begin Chapter 4: The Starcups Saga" copyright 2005 Rik Davnall, all rights reserved Rik_the_Riff@hotmail.com - email me! Days left 'til Rik's birthday... 2 So, I'm home in Manchester. 15 weeks here missing Liverpool (it's not so bad, really... *sniff*) I plan to seriously devote some time to the comic (not that I haven't already, with the amount of promotion I'm currently doing - I expect to be doing some more today), and to generally kick back and relax in preparation for a frantic second year at uni (two, possibly three comics to create, officer positions in two societies, modules which actually count towards my final degree and a girlfriend - it's a lot for a guy to handle). Of course, I'm going to have to get a job, which will cut into my time a bit, but hopefully not too much. The good news is that, for some reason, everything comic-related seems easier at the moment. I drew Monday's page on Friday and it's not only high-quality (backgrounds make all the difference!), but I drew it pretty damn quickly as well. It gives me a little confidence that I can manage the summer's busy schedule - starting with an extra update on Tuesday to celebrate my 19th birthday. It's not going to be a story comic, though - probably a filler of some sort. I'll try to make it funny! ^_- Anyway, here is the title page for chapter 4 of Prismatic Vodka. As promised, it's about an evil coffee shop company which does not in any way resemble any company in the real world (please don't sue me!). I'm really pleased with this cover; learning from the chapter 3 cover, I tried to be a bit simpler and focus on the important bits (ie. It's got Mike and Brian in it, and it's about a coffee shop company). It's turned out really well, particularly the way Mike's and Brian's characters are coming through the drawing, which is really the first time they have. As you'll see tomorrow, I think this has actually counted for a lot as far as the overall quality of the comic goes. Speaking of quality of comics, if you're not afraid of edginess, check out Indefensible Positions. I discovered this comic on Friday night and, well, it's really good. Not for everyone, since the opening chapter has a *lot* of implied sexual deviancy in it (not gratuitous, but it's there). It's well-plotted, well-structured, has an interesting parade of characters, and, most importantly, knows its philosophy pretty damn well. I'm hoping to do a link exchange with them, but the author is quite difficult to contact without daring the hell that is Livejournal (Here be Emo ^_-). I'll say if anything happens. I think that's about it for now - my downloads have been running a bit weird for the past week, so I don't have any new anime to talk about. More tomorrow! Wub, Rik Bizarre Things I've Said!
