Prismatic Vodka #72 Monday June 12th 2006 "The Ominous Message" copyright 2005 Rik Davnall, all rights reserved Rik_the_Riff@hotmail.com - email me! Days left 'til Rik's birthday... 1 Well, I've settled in pretty well for now at home. Somehow, all my stuff (a combination of stuff that I didn't have room for before I went to uni last September and stuff I've bought since) fitted (just about) into my room, so I'm fully unpacked. The internet is working, I've set uTorrent up again and I'm able to update the comic. Of course, the laptop goes into the shop today for a RAM upgrade, so there might be a hitch tomorrow (I do have a filler comic prepared, there just might not be a rant). Hopefully not. I'm really pleased with this page. Actually bothering to put the effort into a few backgrounds - even if they are a bit scrappy - has really helped the look of the comic. The reason no background is visible in the last panel is because Mike's standing in front of a window and I haven't planned what's visible from that side of the house (probably the fence and another house). The only real problem is the way it looks like Mike's shoulders are on backwards in panel 2; he's actually looking over his shoulder, but I didn't get the line of his head quite right. It's close enough. I finally have some anime to talk about! First up is .Hack//Roots episode 10, which is again intriguing, but unfortunately the writers bottled out a little. They haven't found 'Keyyyov za twilightoh' yet. Instead, an interesting twist gave us a very new situation and a whole new viewpoint on Haseo, which was cool. My only complaint? Same as always; the animators are either too lazy or too underfunded to manage a decent combat scene; combat consists of static shots of characters posing with their weapons or talking to each other across a busy fight scene, sound effects and cutaways to important conversations happening elsewhere. This isn't good enough, guys! If Eureka 7 can manage the quality of animation and action it can on a regular basis, so can you! Approach the next paragraph with much fear... Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, about which I have raved several times, is advancing again! Episode nine appeared yesterday, and this time, fully equipped with a sofa to hide behind (well, not quite, but you get the idea) I watched it. This chapter may be the scariest yet, given that it could quite possibly have both Rena *and* Satoko going psycho. You know it's going to be good when the scariest part of the episode isn't the mutilated body discovered at the start of the episode, but the bit where Rena has a bit of a freak-out near the end. Of the three chapter-start episodes so far, this one's been the most unsettling. I also have Ouran High School Host Club ep 10, but I've not watched it yet - time has been too tight with unpacking and stuff. I hope to watch it tomorrow, along with Princess Princess 10. I've also started playing Darwinia again. I don't know how many of you will be aware of Darwinia as a game, but it was my favourite RTS of last year; small and unassuming, deliberately retro yet oddly innovative, and perfectly-pitched difficulty-wise, it works in a way few RTS games do; even simpler than Ground Control, but even more compelling that Homeworld. If you don't own it, get it... 'Til tomorrow, when I'll be celebrating being a year closer to dying... ^_- Wub, Rik ![]() ![]()
