Prismatic Vodka #92 Monday July 24th 2006 "Officially the best page I've ever drawn" copyright 2005 Rik Davnall, all rights reserved Rik_the_Riff@hotmail.com - email me!
Okay, I promise this will be a shorter rant than last nights. Also less, y'know, ranty. But you did read the page title right; this is, imho, the best thing I've ever drawn. It might not look quite as pretty as the dragon back in chapter 3, but in terms of the evolution of my art and my ability to live up to the challenges I present myself with, it's as yet unsurpassed (though this may be a short-live title, as I'm working on a page which is going to be pretty damn cool - page 143, to be precise). Anyway, now that I'm done being self-congratulatory, I have a few things to yatter about. First up; pay attention to that last panel. As you'll see on Wednesday, that's kinda an important moment for this comic. Secondly, I don't know if I'm gonna be able to get ahold of tomorrow's Little Heart page in time to put it up, so if there's no update tomorrow, my apologies. Things are just so complicated in terms of coordinating with Helen right now that it might not be possible (we're CURSED! CURSED I SAY!). For once, I have anime reviews (remember when I used to have something every day? Good times... ) First up; Higurashi 15, and the conclusion of chapter four. In many ways, this was an episode lacking in everything Higurashi does well (or rather, it was an episode - and a chapter - which failed to do the things Higurashi normally does well as well as Higurashi normally does, and so seemed a little flat). The revelations are interesting enough, I guess, but the 'schizophrenic small girls are frightening' shtick is getting old; chapter 3, by shifting the freakiness into Keichi, did the right thing to keep the series going. Chapter 4, with its complete dislocation of setting and story-period, and its relatively uninteresting protagonist, comes off as flat and tired in comparison. Here's hoping that chapter 5 is a return to form. Also disappointing was .Hack//Roots 15. In many ways, it's a very necessary episode; Tabby does need some development and some challenges, and I can see why the writers decided to dedicate this episode to that, but unfortunately I feel they did a pretty bad job of it. The new characters were all kinda annoying, really, angst or no, and Phyllo is beginning to feel overused (much as I love him and his funky hovering antics). I would have got Cluster Edge 17 in as well, but it's late and I'm tired, and I kinda need to sleep before work tomorrow >_< Ah, well. I'll update the archive before you read this.
