Ok, I lied. I said there wouldn't be a rant today, but here it is. Thing is, this is possibly
the most important page I've drawn yet, and I have a few things to say about it. Unfortunately,
because it's late at night two days ago as I write this, I'm a little incoherent, and my
touching-up job on this page hasn't been great, so the art is far from perfect.

However, for once it's not the art I'm celebrating. This page is all about the writing. And
the plotting, but that's all secret. It's a pet peeve of mine that almost no webcomic or
graphic novel treats the subject of human beings killing properly. Granted, a lot of the
comics I read don't feature humans killing humans, or only feature deranged or psychotic
humans killing humans, but there is the odd one, here and there, where a protagonist will
kill someone and be fine shortly afterwards.

Now, I don't pretend to be any kind of expert on the subject, but I do know that the human
mind has a way of punishing itself very severely for the killing of other human minds. It is,
allegedly, something one can learn to live with if one has done it enough, but it apparently
never goes away. Nightmares and other symptoms of post-traumatic stress follow killers around
for the rest of their lives.

I like to think you could see a little of that on Mike's face in cell 1 of Monday's comic;
a sort of jaded self-contempt. Mike, as you may have guessed, like Tink, has a backstory
with a great deal of violence and suffering (which will be exposed in due course). Brian,
by contrast, is a peaceful and relatively ordinary guy, who is now faced with the horror
of having killed someone with his bare hands (pun unintended - sorry).

As you can guess, he's going to be carrying this burden for a long time. Like, several years,
our time...

Wub, Rik
